Each year the Law School invites student organizations and publications to submit proposals for a Student Sponsored Symposium. The Symposium typically is held in the spring semester.  The guidelines for selection of the 2014-15 Symposium can be found here. Proposals should be submitted to Dean Schroeder via e-mail, using the Application Form.

The UCI Law Center for Corporate Legal Leadership presents a guest lecture by Gary B. Sabin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Excel Trust, Inc. (NYSE: EXL). Excel Trust, Inc. is a retail focused real estate investment trust that targets value-oriented community and power centers, grocery anchored neighborhood centers and freestanding retail properties.  This event is free and open to the public but online RSVP is requested to secure a seat.

Our own UCI Law alum Andrea Smith will discuss her Skadden Fellowship work on the school to prison pipeline for students with disabilities. Schools expel students with disabilities three times more than students without disabilities, often in direct violation of the law.

Mock Trial Final Round, EDU 1121
The third annual UCI Mock Trial competition will take place on March 19th at 7:00 p.m. Come see two amazing teams battle it out for the championship trophy after their success in several preliminary rounds.   More than 30  students competed in Mock Trial this year. The final trial features a distinguished panel, including practitioners and judges, with Orange County Superior Court Judge Fred Slaughter presiding.

Professor Leslie Griffin: Contraceptive Mandate, MPAA 420
Please join the Women's Law Society and the American Constitution Society for a discussion with our own Prof. Griffin, who is an expert on the intersection of law and religion. Just hours after the Supreme Court hears oral argument in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby, which asks if the contraceptive mandate under the Affordable Care Act violates the First Amendment religious expression rights of the owners of for-profit corporations, we can hear Prof. Griffin's take. Susan Butler Plum, the Founding Director of the Skadden Fellowship Program, will be presenting (via Skype) an inside perspective into the application process for this prestigious post-graduate fellowship program. LRAP Informational Workshop: You can Afford to be a Public Interest Attorney, MPAA 420
Are you interested in the idea of serving the public good as an attorney, but feel that it is not an affordable option?  Well, you can afford to be a public interest or government attorney!  UCI Law launched the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) last spring, which is available to all current UCI Law students after graduation.  The bottom line is that UCI Law will help eligible graduates pay their student loans for up to ten years, including undergraduate loans.  To better understand the detailed guidelines for LRAP, you should attend the workshop hosted by Nasreen Zia, Director of Financial Aid, and Anna Davis, Director of Public Interest Programs.  You will be surprised to learn how much UCI Law can help your public interest and government career goals become a reality.

UCI School of Law is pleased to hold a special 3 ½ hour MPRE exam preparation course on Friday, March 21 from 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in EDU Room 1111. The course is designed for students taking the  March 29, 2014  MPRE exam.  Passing the MPRE is necessary for admission to most state bars, including California.  It can be taken after the first year of law school.  Dean Erwin Chemerinsky will teach the course, which is free to all students.  Room capacity is limited.  Please RSVP to Debbie Mondares at by Tuesday, March 19 .  Since we open this review to students from other OC law schools, it is important to reserve your seat early (we do block off a large number of seats for UCI Law students).

Early Bar Prep Workshop, EDU 1111
The Early Bar Prep program focuses on familiarizing students with what is tested on the bar exam, providing studying and test taking strategies, and offering students initial practice on each of the types of questions that appear on the bar exam.  In each workshop, the students will complete a bar exam exercise and receive individualized feedback.  The sessions are open to 3Ls and taught by Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, Linda Puertas, Director of Academic Skills, and Sue Kung, Assistant Director of Academic Skills. Early Bar Prep will be offered from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on March 23, March 30, and April 6.
