Domestic Law Student Checklist

This checklist has been developed as a calendar guide to assist you as you start your law school career at UC Irvine.

January & February

March

  • Formally Accept Your Scholarship by the date you received with your scholarship offer. It is in your best interest to submit this form as soon as possible.  Failure to accept the scholarship by the deadline will result in forfeiture of our scholarship offer.  If you do not accept our scholarship offer, your offer of admission to the law school still stands.
  • Start the Housing Application process

April

  • Apply for on-campus graduate housing by completing the Online Guaranteed Housing Application (UCINetID login required). The housing application is only open to students who have submitted their Positive Statement of Intent to Register and their first non-refundable deposit. More information about UCI Graduate Student Housing.
  • Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) online by the date you received with your offer of Admission. It is in your best interest to submit this form and deposit as soon as possible after making your decision, because the School of Law need to inform the university that you intend to register. By submitting the SIR and deposit, the school can prepare administratively for your arrival and the housing office will be able to accept your online application for graduate housing. It is crucial to submit your SIR and deposit by the deadline provided to you, or if your deadline is after April 15 at least 48 hours before the housing application deadline to allow time for Housing to receive your SIR record.
  • April 15: Early Decision second non-refundable SIR deposit due

June

July

  • Finalize Housing
  • July 6: Priority deadline to submit the online Statement of Legal Residency (SLR) form.
  • July 15: Set up your Disbursements Electronic Fund Transfer (DEFT) for any excess financial aid funds to be refunded to you for living expenses
  • TBD: Upload your ID photo. In order to register for Orientation, you must have a valid UCI Photo ID Card.  To prepare your Campus ID card, upload your photo (See photo guidelines and upload instructions here).   All photos must be approved by the UCI Card Office, so we recommend uploading your photo as soon as possible.  For those of you that meet the deadline, we will have your ID Card for you when you come to register for Orientation. If you do not meet the deadline, you will need to proceed to the campus bookstore to obtain your UCI Photo ID before checking-in for Orientation.
  • TBD: Pay Access Card deposit. A key card is necessary for after-hours access to MPAA and in order to access the Law Library. We will be passing out key cards during registration for Orientation. If you do not order by the deadline, you may not be able to access the law library and the buildings after hours during the first couple weeks of school.  In order to ensure you have access beginning with Orientation, please order your card by the deadline.   • Start summer reading
  • Review upcoming August deadlines
  • TBD: Certify compliance with the UC COVID-19 Vaccination Policy by uploading your vaccination card to the Student Health Center portal
  • UC TB Test/Vaccination Mandate: The deadline to complete this requirement is September 17, 2022The Admissions Office recommends completion of the form prior to the start of the Fall semester.

August

  • August 1: Deadline to submit your official undergraduate transcript, including degree and date of conferral, to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for inclusion in your CAS Report.
  • TBD: Deadline to apply for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) waiver
  • Explore transit options - including parking permits and riding the OCTA bus
  • Obtain UCI ID card
  • Update your contact info online
  • TBD: Deadline to pay fall tuition and fees before late fees are assessed to your ZOTBILL.
  • August 15-19: Participate in Mandatory Law School Orientation
  • August 22: First day of fall instruction

September

  • UC TB Test/Vaccination Mandate: The University of California (UC) is committed to protecting the health and well-being of our students, the campus community and beyond.  In order to protect the campus from outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, ALL incoming UC students are REQUIRED to obtain four (4) specific vaccines and undergo screening for Tuberculosis or provide documentation demonstrating compliance with these requirements.  More information on this requirement, including how to report your compliance, can be found at https://shc.uci.edu/new-student-information.  The deadline to complete this requirement is September 17, 2022.  Please be aware that students who fail to comply with this requirement will have an academic hold placed on their record and will not be able to register for classes the following (Spring) semester.
