Domestic Law Student Checklist

This checklist has been developed as a calendar guide to assist you as you start your law school career at UC Irvine.

If you are an international student, go to the New International Law Student Checklist.

  • May 1 is the deadline to submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) online. It is in your best interest to submit this form as soon as possible after making your decision, because the School of Law cannot formally admit you until we have informed the university that you intend to register. By submitting the SIR, the school can prepare administratively for your arrival and the housing office will be able to accept your online application for graduate housing. It is crucial to submit your SIR at least 48 hours before the housing application deadline to allow time for Housing to recieve your  SIR record.
  • May 1 is the deadline to submit the Online Guaranteed Housing Application. The guaranteed housing offer is for the fall semester, and cannot be deferred to a later time. Students who do not accept the University’s first housing offer may elect to be placed on the wait list for another community. More information at UCI Graduate Student Housing site.

  • Request Official Transcript with degree posted to clear provisional admission.

    Office of Admissions
    UC Irvine School of Law

  • Pay tuition and fees
All financial aid funds administered by UCI (grants, scholarships, fellowships and federal loans) will appear as a credit on SBS 10 days before the first day of law school instruction; students must be enrolled in at least six units. Your financial aid funds will be applied to university charges first, and then refunded to you to pay for living expenses.
  • Apply for UCSHIP (Student Health Insurance)

September & October

  • First week of October, submit your official undergraduate transcript showing receipt of a bachelor’s degree. The ABA requires each admitted student to submit a final official undergraduate transcript to the School of Law. The copy you supplied to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) is NOT an official transcript (ABA Standards, 502-I).
  • UC TB Test/Vaccination Mandate: The University of California (UC) is committed to protecting the health and well-being of our students, the campus community and beyond.  In order to protect the campus from outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases, ALL incoming UC students are REQUIRED to obtain four (4) specific vaccines and undergo screening for Tuberculosis or provide documentation demonstrating compliance with these requirements.  More information on this requirement, including how to report your compliance, can be found at  The deadline to complete this requirement is Friday, October 19, 2018.  Please be aware that students who fail to comply with this requirement will have an academic hold placed on their record and will not be able to register for classes the following (Spring) semester.
