Public Programming

Conferences

CLEANR hosts and supports public conferences for a broad range of audiences that bring together a variety of perspectives from multiple disciplines. The center has hosted or co-hosted interdisciplinary conferences on environmental topics including desalination, ocean health, energy development, de-extinction, climate justice, offshore oil drilling, and more.

Speaker Series

In order to promote innovative thinking and engagement with issues concerning environmental and land use law, CLEANR convenes an annual series of targeted lectures and panels featuring the fields’ most current research.

Environmental Literature and Film Series

Working in collaboration with the UCI Law Environmental Law Society, CLEANR convenes an annual series featuring both new and foundational works in literature and film addressing a range of environmental, land use, and natural resource issues. Discussions are facilitated by UCI Law faculty, and often involve the creators of the featured works.

Summer Sustainability Series

From 2011 to 2018, CLEANR co-hosted an international interdisciplinary summer institute for future sustainability leaders. The UCI Summer Seminar Series “Empowering Sustainability on Earth,” co-hosted by the UCI Newkirk Center for Science and Society, presented a range of seminars each July for members of the next generation of leaders of global sustainability from over 70 countries around the world.
