Alternative Break Projects
Spring 2010

Students participated in the following pro bono projects during Spring Break 2010:

  • Haitian Temporary Protective Status Applications: Traveling to Miami to assist Haitian refugees who are seeking temporary asylum in the United States following the devastating earthquake in their home country.
  • Men’s Jail Mental Health Survey: Assisting the American Civil Liberties Union in conducting surveys of inmates at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, regarding mental health issues.
  • Coastkeeper of Orange County: Reviewing and summarizing recent environmental legislation in order to update the organization’s database, and possibly writing comment letters to legislators encouraging/discouraging the passage of certain bills.
  • Skid Row Tour and Assisting the Homeless: Touring Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles with the Inner City Law Center, followed by an afternoon volunteering with the General Relief Advocacy Project through Public Counsel at a social service office assisting clients with shelter, food, health, transportation and social service needs.
