May 21, 2015

IRVINE, Calif., May 21, 2015 — U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer has received the University of California, Irvine School of Law 2015 Public Service Award for exemplifying the school’s commitment to making society and the world a better place. UCI Law honored her at the Annual Public Service Award Dinner on May 8, 2015, at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach, Calif.

Barbara Boxer has spent her career serving the public. She has been a tireless advocate for the environment and issues affecting women and children. Senator Boxer has spearheaded efforts to create more than 3 million jobs in transportation projects nationwide and has championed public education, afterschool programs in particular. Senator Boxer has also focused her attention on helping severely wounded warriors receive the highest quality care in California.

“It is such an honor to receive this Public Service Award from the UC Irvine School of Law — a school that puts public service at the center of everything it does,” Senator Boxer said.

Barbara Boxer became a United States Senator in January 1993 after 10 years of service in the House of Representatives and six years on the Marin County Board of Supervisors. In November 2010, she was reelected to her fourth term in the Senate. A national leader on environmental protection, Senator Boxer is the ranking member on the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Environment and Public Works. She is also the vice chair of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics and a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where she created the first subcommittee ever to focus on global women’s issues. Senator Boxer is also a member of the Democratic leadership in the Senate, serving as the Chief Deputy Whip since 2005. More information on U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer.
