Beatrice A. Tice
Founding Faculty
Associate Dean for the Law Library

Why did you agree to join the University of California, Irvine School of Law faculty?
I’m very excited to join the UC Irvine School of Law faculty—this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a wonderful institution from the ground up, and in my home community! As a native of Newport Beach who practiced law in the area, I’ve always felt that UCI deserved and could support a world-class law school. Being able to participate in the founding and development of that law school is an unbelievable thrill.

What is your teaching style?
My teaching style is very interactive, both in and out of the classroom. I love it when students stop me in the corridor or the library to ask questions or discuss issues. I try to spend a lot of time out of my office to facilitate these informal encounters.

What are you the most excited about doing in the first years of the law school?
I’m very excited to have the opportunity to create a new academic law library for the 21st century. I envision the UC Irvine School of Law Library as a friendly, functional and creative space, both physically and virtually. I look forward to making that vision a reality through a combination of advanced technology, electronic and print resources, and comfortable chairs!
