Degrees and Specializations
Initially, the University of California, Irvine School of Law will offer the juris doctorate (J.D.) degree. It is our goal to later add the master of laws (LL.M.) and doctor of the science of law (J.S.D.) degrees.
Our inaugural students will have numerous options for joint degrees with other leading graduate programs across the University of California, Irvine. These programs are currently being developed, but are expected to include a joint J.D./MBA with the Paul Merage School of Business, a joint J.D./master of public health, and several joint J.D./Ph.D. and J.D./M.A. or M.S. opportunities.
Several of our founding faculty already hold appointments at other schools across the UC Irvine campus, including scholars who are among the country’s leaders in such disciplines as law and humanities, law and society, criminology, law and psychology, law and business, law and real estate, and law and economics. We are all dedicated to building a unique and rich array of interdisciplinary offerings and dual-degree programs that build upon the university’s existing strengths.
We continue to plan the specializations that will be offered. We anticipate they will include such offerings as environmental law, intellectual property law and public interest/social justice, among others that take advantage of Southern California’s economic vibrancy as well as UC Irvine and our founding faculty’s numerous strengths.
