Guest Speaker Series: Obie Anthony, EDU 1111
Obie Anthony was imprisoned at age 19 for a murder that he did not commit.  After 17 years of incarceration, his conviction was vacated in 2011 following an investigation by the Northern California Innocence Project and a team of Loyola Law students that revealed evidence of prosecutorial misconduct, false testimony and ineffective assistance of counsel.  Mr. Anthony sued the City of Los Angeles and reached a settlement in April for $8.3 million.  Mr. Anthony has a second federal civil rights lawsuit pending.  His plans for the settlement money include opening a center to help others wrongfully convicted adjust to
life after exoneration.  Please RSVP here by Monday, August 17th.

This session will focus on Federal and State Honors Programs and other entry-level legal positions.  We will discuss the various hiring programs, their timelines, and what makes an applicant desirable.  Please RSVP on Simplicity.

A faculty panel will discuss professionalism in the classroom and on campus, and how that relates to professionalism in the workplace.  This workshop is mandatory for 1Ls.  Lunch will be served.

Moot Court Competition Information Session, EDU 1111
The UCI Law Moot Court Competition launches the second week of school! Excited about the opportunity to represent your school to state and federal judges and distinguished appellate attorneys with your oral argument skill and brief writing chops? Or, at least to polish those skills a wee bit? Do not miss the informational session Monday, August 24, 2015 at 12 noon in EDU 1111. Join the current board members/past competitors to learn scintillating details such as the sign-up process, expected workload, timeline, and how to pick a partner who actually does his/her work. All 2Ls/3Ls welcome. The meeting will be recorded, but you know you'd rather witness this in person.  The sign-up deadline is August 30, 2015, and a mandatory brief training meeting will take place September 2, 2015, and the prompt will be released later that day.

UCI’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity will provide Title IX training on sexual harassment/discrimination awareness and prevention. This training is federally-mandated and is required for all 1L students.  Attendance will be taken.

Student Services is giving away 50 ice cream sandwiches from the Chunk 'N Chip food truck on Monday, August 17, between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.  We will select 50 names at random, and you will be notified via e-mail with details on where to pick up your voucher and your sandwich. Sawdust Arts & Crafts Festival was selected "Best Art Festival" by OC Weekly and voted "one of the country's top five festivals" by AmericanStyle Magazine.  Admission of one ticket per UCI ID is free for UCI students, staff and faculty after 5:00 p.m.  For guests, admission is also free on Mondays after 5:00 p.m. for residents of Balboa Island, Corona del Mar, Costa Mesa, Foothill Ranch, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Orange, Portola Hills, Santa Ana, Silverado Canyon, Trabuco Canyon, Tustin, and Villa Park!
