Speaker Series - Carol Sobel, Civil Rights Attorney, EDU 1111
Carol Sobel is a Los Angeles attorney who specializes in civil rights and civil liberties cases.  She is particularly well known for her recent work on behalf of the homeless.  Prior to going into private practice, she spent 20 years working in various positions for the ACLU of Southern California, including as Senior Staff Attorney focusing on the First Amendment for her last seven years there. She has been involved in numerous significant cases in federal and state courts.  She is active in the LA chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and frequently holds workshops on the rights of demonstrators.  Since 2002, she has been named as one of Los Angeles' Super Lawyers for Civil Rights.  Please RSVP here by August 25th to guarantee lunch will be ordered for you.

Speaker Series: Andrea Smith, UCI Law Graduate, EDU 1111
Andrea Smith is the first UCI Law graduate to be selected as a Skadden Fellow. Only 29 lawyers nationally were chosen for this prestigious two-year fellowship in public interest law. Ms. Smith is working at the Disability Rights Legal Center in Los Angeles, where she engages in community education, direct representation, and impact litigation for youth with disabilities in public schools who are also affected by homelessness. Ms. Smith is also an Associate Professor in Media and Cultural Studies at UC Riverside; she taught during all three years of law school.  Please RSVP here by September 1st to guarantee lunch will be ordered for you.

All 2Ls and 3Ls are invited to attend the informational meeting for UCI Law's 2014-15 Experian/Jones Day Moot Court Competition. The current Moot Court Board will discuss this year's competition timeline, rules, and expectations, and will answer any and all questions. The team sign-up deadline is the following week, the same week this year's exciting new prompt is released!

Are you interested in learning more about careers in intellectual property law? Are you a science or engineering major interested in patent law? Join the CDO and Intellectual Property & Cyberlaw Society (IPCS) as we host a panel of experienced intellectual property and patent law professionals, who will discuss their educational background, training and experience. CDO:  U.S. Army JAG Corps Information Session, LAW 3750
CPT Bruce L. Mayeaux, J.D. will be visiting UCI Law for an informal information session to speak with students who might be interested in applying to the U.S. Army JAG Corps. The U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps is a military branch that operates like a court system. Its practitioners, referred to as Judge Advocates, are licensed attorneys qualified to represent the Army and Army soldiers in military legal matters.  Students should RSVP on Symplicity. CPT Bruce L. Mayeaux will be conducting formal interviews for 2L summer intern positions and 3L Active Duty positions. Email Kelly Swanholm for additional information.

Professor Christopher Leslie will moderate a workshop about the challenges of transitioning to law school from the work place.
