Adjunct/Lecturer Panel on Spring Course Offerings (2Ls/3Ls)
, EDU 1111 Lecturers/Adjunct faculty will discuss their upper level course offerings for the spring, 2014 term.  Students have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight into different classes.  The panel is a valuable way to help students make decisions on course selections. The tentative list of spring courses can be found here. We are still in the process of adding new classes and scheduling the days/times classes will meet.  Please RSVP by Tuesday, September 24 to guarantee lunch will be provided for you.

Speaker Series: Wayne Gross, EDU 1131
Wayne Gross is a named partner in Greenberg Gross, LLP.  He served as lead trial counsel for companies and executives in their most important business litigation matters, including cases involving the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Food and Drug Administration, as well as class actions, cases alleging unfair business practices, and health care litigation. His many trial victories include obtaining, along with his partner Alan Greenberg, a $50 million jury verdict in a partnership dispute regarding the world-famous Hollywood Palladium.  A former federal prosecutor, Gross specialized in financial fraud and health care fraud, for which he was presented with awards by two U.S. Attorneys General and the Director of the FBI.  Please RSVP here by September 30th to guarantee lunch will be ordered for you.

Phi Alpha Delta Information Session

Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International (PAD) is the world's largest professional legal fraternity and is committed to advancing integrity, compassion and courage through service to the student, the school, the profession and the community.  PAD would like to establish a chapter at UCI.  The PAD network stretches from coast to coast and allows students to maintain a network of professional resources long after they graduate. Leah Farmer, the Member Services Consultant will be on campus Monday, September 23d tabling in the courtyard and hosting a general meeting from 12:30-1:00pm in Law 3750 (tacos will be provided for lunch).

CARES Training, Offsite: Chapman University School of Law
Students who have been trained for this pro bono project will assist clients at Department of Social Services Offices in Los Angeles County in groups of 4-10. They will engage in supervised emergency benefits advocacy, particularly relating to shelter, food, health, transportation, and other social service needs.  CARES advocates routinely arrange for homeless individuals to receive shelter they would not otherwise have received, and assist indigent individuals in obtaining food and nutrition.  Interested students should sign up on PB Track and contact Leah Gasser-Ordaz (lgassero@lawnet.uci.edu) or Becca Maloney (maloneyr@lawnet.uci.edu) to sign up for the training.

Offered by Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Orange County. This workshop teaches the Federal Trade Commission’s “Deter, Detect, and Defend” program. Susan Pithey from the CA Attorney General's Office will do a question and answer workshop about the Fall 2014 Honors Program. This Program is targeted to 3Ls graduating in May 2014.The Attorney General’s Honors Program is a highly competitive, two-year program for recent law school graduates and newly admitted lawyers who are committed to public service. The Attorney General’s Office employs attorneys who are recognized experts in a wide variety of legal subject areas including but not limited to consumer, antitrust, environment, business and tax, criminal and civil rights. Honors attorneys will have the opportunity to work with these experts, including working on matters of public interest and importance. Participants will assume substantial individual responsibility for their work, will have the opportunity to gain courtroom experience, and will independently draft motions and pleadings.

FREE MPRE Exam Review with Dean Chemerinsky (2Ls/3Ls),

UCI School of Law is once again pleased to hold a special 3 ½ hour MPRE exam preparation course. The course is designed for students taking the  November 2, 2013  MPRE exam.  Passing the MPRE is necessary for admission to most state bars, including California.  It can be taken after the first year of law school. Dean Erwin Chemerinsky will teach the course, which is free to all students.  Room capacity is limited.  Please RSVP to Debbie Mondares at dmondares@law.uci.edu by Thursday, October 10.  Since we open this review to students from other OC law schools, it is important to reserve your seat early (we do block off a number of seats for UCI Law students).

UCI cares about the health of its faculty, staff and students. Therefore, UC Irvine is going smoke free. The implementation of this policy will take the cooperation of our entire campus community. To learn more about this policy, please click here.  Smoking cessation resources will be available on an ongoing basis for those who request assistance. The UC Irvine Health Education Center will provide printed resources and other cessation information for students affected by this policy

This event will both kick of a year's worth of WLS programming and honor the achievements women have made in the legal community.
