Nov. 9, 2012: "The Future of Offshore Oil Drilling: Science, Law and Governance" conference hosted by UCI's Center for Land, Environment, & Natural Resources at the School of Law, The Newkirk Center, School of Social Ecology, Program in Public Health and Environment Institute


The center hosts and co-hosts public conferences that bring together a variety of perspectives and disciplines for a range of audiences. UCI Law has hosted or co-hosted interdisciplinary conferences on a range of environmental topics, including environmental health and law (Fall 2009), water conservation in Mexico (Spring 2010), the Arctic (Fall 2010), California coastal conservation (Spring 2011), climate justice (Spring 2011), ice melt (Fall 2011), and offshore oil drilling (Fall 2012). In addition, CLEANR hosts an annual conference series focused on environmental law issues and problems of particular interest to practitioners and policymakers. Read more >

Workshop Roundtables

CLEANR strives to create programs and other educational opportunities through which to disseminate information and facilitate dialogue about environmental issues. It is hoped that such programs will help build advocacy networks among academics, students, activists and policy makers that will play a leading role in framing debates, developing solutions and challenging existing policies and practices where they fall short in protecting the environment. Speaker Series

As part of CLEANR’s strategic plan to promote innovative thinking and engagement about environmental and land use law, each year, the center convenes a series of lectures or a panel on a particular environmental law issue. Read more >

Environmental Literature and Film Series

Working in collaboration with the UCI Law Environmental Law Society, CLEANR convenes an annual series on foundational literature and film on a range of environmental, land use, and natural resources topics. UCI faculty members, or the work's author when possible, will frame and lead the discussion about the work, which students participating in the series will have read. Read more >

Summer Sustainability Series

The UCI Law Center for Land, Environment, and Natural Resources co-hosts an international interdisciplinary summer institute for future sustainability leaders. Launched in 2011, the UCI Summer Seminar Series "Empowering Sustainability on Earth," co-hosted by the UCI Newkirk Center for Science and Society, presents a range of seminars each July for members of the next generation of leaders of global sustainability from over 70 countries around the world.
