2014 Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE)

The majority of UCI Law students during academic year 2013-14 rated their entire educational experience as excellent, according to results of the 2014 LSSSE. UCI Law’s satisfaction rating far exceeds the 2014 LSSSE average, as well as the results for our peer institutions (i.e., other schools of similar size, other public universities, etc.).

What is the Law School Survey of Student Engagement?

LSSSE asks students about their law school experience — how they spend their time, what they feel they've gained from their classes, their assessment of the quality of interactions with faculty and friends, and about important activities. Extensive research indicates that good educational practices in the classroom and interactions with others, such as faculty and peers, are directly related to high-quality student outcomes. LSSSE focuses on these practices by assessing student engagement in key areas.

Survey Results

Distribution of the results listed below are broken down in the following manner:

  • Selected Peers: Our peer schools are five schools of similar academic status. Comparison group does not include respondents from our law school.
  • Less than 500: Schools of similar population size (less than 500) that participated in the LSSSE 2014 survey. Comparison group does not include respondents from our law school.
  • Public: Schools of similar affiliation (Public Institution) that participated in the LSSSE 2014 survey. Comparison group does not include respondents from our law school.
  • LSSSE 2014: All 70 law schools (with more than 21,000 students collectively) that participated in the LSSSE 2014 survey.

Our students were surveyed in spring 2014. They were asked a number of questions by LSSSE. Following are the results from two questions that summarized their overall satisfaction with their experience at the University of California, Irvine School of Law.
